Fakear

open world (mixtape)

Adjust your mirrors.

Tell me, does a trip start when you arrive at the station, or the moment you step into the car ? No need to answer right away, I’ll give you 22 minutes and 45 seconds, exactly the length of Fakear’s new mixtape, to get you moving before the release of his next album, a nice place to be.

For the occasion, Fakear invites us into his car and even lets us call him Théo, because, really, we’re among friends here. You’re comfortably seated in the passenger seat, no one in the back, free to push your seat all the way down and stretch your legs, and that, as we all know, is the definition of happiness.

No time to argue about which record to put on: we’re going straight for Fakear’s mixtape, halfway between a road trip with friends and a studio session.

Careful though, it starts right away, but not in the direction you’d expect. Here, Théo is more club, more spontaneous. And while the art of the mixtape isn’t always easy, luckily this time it’s Fakear behind the wheel. You may know him as a composer, producer, and performer, but you might have missed one of his other talents: DJing.

22 minutes of finely tuned, raw mixing, punctuated by his friends’ voices, sharing live reactions to each track. You can feel his influences, hear glimpses of his new songs, and above all, you get this irresistible urge to dance, or better yet, to have him come and make you dance at home.

That’s exactly what Fakear did over the past few months: he showed up at fans’ houses, gear in tow, to throw his own kind of listening party. From city to city, with a car full of machines, Théo and his friends hit the road to reconnect with the people who listen to his music, bringing back a bit of human connection (and celebration) to a world that talks far too much about algorithms.

“Weird, but cool.” That’s how Oogo, head of Nowadays Records and member of La Fine Équipe, summed it up. Which, fortunately, didn’t stop the label from signing Fakear’s next album, coming in April 2026.

Oh, and about the trip? Personally, I think it starts the moment you know where you want to go.
